Dr. Mark Watson, Oracle

Dr. Mark Watson
Dr. Mark Watson is Director of Hardware Development at Oracle where he has responsibility for leading the development of highly novel, advanced archive storage systems.

He has worked at the cutting edge of tape-based storage technologies since 1997 and, during this time, has contributed significantly, in management and senior technical roles, to the design and development of all of Oracle's StorageTek portfolio tape drives, including 9840 / 9940 and T10000. In addition, he has also been instrumental in developing a number of other highly innovative and technically advanced products. Previously, at Sun Microsystems, Mark was elected to the position of Distinguished Engineer, he has been awarded many internal company awards, published nearly fifty papers in internationally refereed journals, and been granted sixteen issued patents.

Prior to moving to the US, he was a Principal Lecturer, based at Coventry University in the UK, and coordinator a major national science and technology program. He has a PhD from the University of Plymouth, UK, and a BSc from the University of Exeter, UK.
